A few weeks earlier, Marion's 17 year old daughter, Laura Burns, rode Sundance to a 1st place finish in Prelim at a local CT, then on to a 7th place finish at the KY Classique HT.

Successful move up to Preliminary (10/07)

Laura Burns and Piedmont Sundance won their first Preliminary CT at September in the Park (KY Horse Park) 2007!
Their photos (12-26) can be viewed and purchased from PhotoReflect

They went on to do their first Preliminary Event (10/6-7/07) at the Horse Park and jumped clean.  Time penalities kept them out of the ribbons but it was a fabulous move-up experience for the young pair (16 yr old Laura and 7 yr old Sun).
Laura Burns qualified for the 2007 American Eventing Championships at Training Level on Piedmont Sundance with a 2nd place finish at the Gemwood Horse Trails.

Successful move to Training Level CT (4/07)
Hi Vanessa, Laura and Piedmont Sundance did their 1st training level recognized CT today (Sayre School) and brought home theblue ribbon, a saddle pad and a Julep Cup !  I'm about to have a mint julep in that cup to celebrate.  Thought you would want to know.  All send their love. Marion, Rob and Laura

Laura finished 2nd at Gemwood this weekend so she met her goal for the season of qualifying for the AEC;  I’m not sure that we will go, but at least she can if she wants and that is the main thing.

Laura earns her C3 Pony Club Rating (7/06)

We survived the C3 rating. It was a three day ordeal and was grueling. Sundance was a good boy – the only six year old there that is for sure. Laura passed the rating, along with her club mates Kelsey and Khaki. Five out of 13 failed and there were lots of tears! I’m sooo glad that is over! No more pony club stress this year. Laura and Sun could go to Pony Club Nationals but she is just too tired and wants to take the rest of the summer off. He probably needs it too.

Laura took Sundance to Eventing Rally which was held during the Midsouth PC HT at the KHP On June 26th. He was a good green boy and Laura’s team was 1st in the novice pony club division and she and Sundance were 2nd in the open horse trial. We were really proud of him. Both Juniper and Sundance are qualified for the AEC novice division. Laura and Sundance have bonded and he is just cocky enough to keep her entertained without being dangerous. Thanks again for my ponies! Marion

MidSouth Pony Club HT 6/24/05 - 1st place BN (32.00)

MayFest Horse Trails (5/06)

Laura and Sun (Piedmont Sundance ) placed 4th in their 16 horse novice division (RESULTS) at the Mayfest Horse Trials at the Kentucky Horse Park, May 27-28 weekend. Good progress for him this weekend in dressage and he did great in stadium and cross country.
MayFest HT 5/27/05 - 6th place BN (41.5)

Piedmont Sundance (Balmullo's Beacon x Kitties and Cash , TB) - May 2005, ridden by 14 yr old, Laura Burns

Pony Club Jumper Show (5/06)

Laura and Sundance at the Wilderness Trace Pony Club Jumper Show May 20th 2006. Sun (Piedmont Sundance ) got lots of ribbons but Foothills Juniper brought home (a cash prize!). No one could beat her in the stakes class - rules were clear and fast wins!

Laura did Sayre School CT which is a USEA recognized show and did training level. You would have been proud. Juniper jumped great and didn't seem at all overfaced... Laura had fun and we rode up in style in our new trailer. Sundance got a ribbon. (5th place)...the course was in grass on a hill side and it was a challenge for him to keep his balance throughout. He seems to enjoy his job and was not nearly as overwhelmed by all the activity this time out.

A fun day at the Jump Start Horse Trials (KY) (10/04)

Last weekend I got to watch 2 of my homebreds compete at one horse trails. Two of them are owned by Marian Caldwell: Foothills Juniper was ridden by Khaki Lacy (photo above) and Piedmont Sundance (photo below) was ridden in his first horse trials by Jennifer Gray. Khaki and Juniper finished in 4th place and Jennifer and Sun finished in the middle of their large BNH division. Juniper finished on her dressage score, as is characteristic of her, and Sun finished with only time penalties added to his dressage score. Considering his age (4 y/o) and that this was his first jumping competition, we were all thrilled with his clear, confident jumping rounds.

Sundance is under saddle doing figure eights at the trot. His steering is improving. I don't get to ride him as much as I would like because of the weather. He is really a sweet guy, very friendly, as most foothills horses are. I have some video clips and a couple of pictures I will try to email soon. Marion (1/04)
